How to Play Among Us: A Beginner’s Guide

Getting started with Among Us is straightforward, but mastering its nuances takes practice and cunning.

For Crewmates: Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It

As a Crewmate, your main responsibilities are:

  • Complete Tasks: Focus on your task list. Each completed task brings your team closer to victory. These tasks are varied and often require a basic understanding of simple puzzles.
  • Observe and Report: Pay close attention to other players. Did you see someone standing over a body? Did someone emerge from a vent? These are crucial clues. If you find a dead body, report it immediately. This initiates a group discussion.
  • Communicate Effectively: During discussions, share what you saw. Be clear and concise. Ask questions. Remember, effective communication is your best weapon against the Impostors.
  • Vote Wisely: When a body is reported, or an emergency meeting is called, players discuss and then vote on who they believe the Impostor is. An incorrect vote can lead to the elimination of an innocent Crewmate, giving the Impostors an advantage. You can also “skip vote” if you’re unsure.

For Impostors: The Art of Deception

Being an Impostor is arguably the most exciting (and challenging) role. Here’s how to succeed:

  • Kill Strategically: Don’t just kill randomly. Look for isolated Crewmates, especially those who might be seen as “safe” by others. Kill in areas where you won’t be easily spotted.
  • Sabotage Smartly: Use sabotages to your advantage. Turn off lights to limit vision for Crewmates, making it easier to kill. Cause an oxygen depletion to force Crewmates to gather in one place, creating opportunities for double kills.
  • Vent Like a Pro: Vents are your best friend. Use them to escape after a kill or to quickly reach a target. But be careful – Crewmates can see you vent!
  • Blend In: Pretend to do tasks (even though you can’t actually complete them). Walk with other Crewmates. Act innocent. The better you blend in, the less suspicion you’ll draw.

Lie Convincingly: When accused, be ready with an alibi. Frame other players. Sow discord among the Crewmates. This is where your social deduction skills truly shine.
