Call of Duty: What It Is and How to Play

Call of Duty (CoD) is a hugely popular first-person shooter (FPS) video game series. It’s known for its fast-paced action, realistic graphics, and intense online multiplayer modes. Over the years, CoD has covered various wars, from World War II to modern conflicts and even futuristic battles.

What You’ll Do (Main Modes):

Most Call of Duty games offer three main ways to play:

1. Campaign (Story Mode): This is a single-player experience where you follow a detailed story, usually playing as different soldiers in a global conflict. Campaigns are known for their cinematic moments, intense battles, and engaging plots with memorable characters. You’ll complete missions, often with specific objectives.
2. Multiplayer (Online Competitive): This is the heart of Call of Duty for many players. You’ll compete against other real players online in various game types (called “modes”) on different maps.
   • Common Modes:
     • Team Deathmatch: Work with your team to get the most kills.
     • Domination: Capture and hold objectives on the map.
     • Search & Destroy: One team plants a bomb, the other defuses it (no respawns).
   • Loadouts: Before a match, you’ll choose your Loadout, which includes your main weapon, secondary weapon, perks (special abilities), lethal (grenades), and tactical (flashbangs).
   • Killstreaks: If you get multiple kills without dying, you earn powerful rewards called Killstreaks (e.g., calling in a UAV to see enemies on the map, or an airstrike).
   • Progression: You earn XP (experience points) by playing, which unlocks new weapons, attachments, perks, and cosmetics.
3. Co-op / Third Mode (e.g., Zombies, Spec Ops):
   • Zombies: (Often by Treyarch) This is a cooperative mode where you and friends fight endless waves of zombies, building barricades, buying weapons, and solving puzzles to survive.
   • Spec Ops: (Often by Infinity Ward) These are cooperative missions with specific objectives, offering a tactical challenge for teams.

How to Play (Basic Tips for Multiplayer):

• Move & Shoot: Always be moving, but also be ready to stop and aim carefully.
• Use Cover: Don’t stand out in the open. Use walls, cars, and other objects to protect yourself.
• Learn Maps: Knowing the maps helps you find good spots, flanking routes, and avoid danger.
• Listen: Footsteps and gunshots give away enemy positions. Use headphones!
• Customize Your Loadout: Find weapons and perks that fit your playstyle. Experiment!
• Play the Objective: In modes like Domination or Hardpoint, simply getting kills isn’t enough. Help your team win by playing the objective.
• Communicate: If playing with friends, use voice chat to coordinate.
