Legendary game creator Hideo Kojima shares why he’s making Physint, a new project considered the spiritual successor to Metal Gear. Here’s what we know.
Hideo Kojima Reveals the Vision Behind Physint – A New Stealth Action Game Inspired by Metal Gear
In a recent interview, Hideo Kojima, the visionary mind behind the Metal Gear Solid franchise, finally opened up about his latest project, Physint—a new action-espionage game that many are calling the spiritual successor to the legendary stealth series. The announcement has sparked excitement across the gaming community, especially among fans longing for a modern take on the tactical espionage genre Kojima helped pioneer.
But why is Kojima making Physint now? And how will it connect to—or differ from—the Metal Gear legacy?
Why Kojima is Returning to the Stealth-Action Genre
According to Kojima, the idea for Physint emerged from both creative longing and player demand. After years of working on unique experiences like Death Stranding, Kojima felt the urge to revisit the action-stealth format that defined his career.
“I wanted to create a new type of action-espionage game for a new generation,” Kojima said. “Not a sequel, but something that evolves the genre—something cinematic, political, and deeply personal.”
Kojima acknowledged that fan requests also played a major role. Despite moving on from the Metal Gear series after leaving Konami, he never stopped receiving messages from players asking for more stealth-action titles in his signature style.
What is Physint?
While still in early development under Kojima Productions, Physint is being described as a cinematic action spy thriller with real-world themes, much like Metal Gear. Kojima hinted that the game will blur the lines between gameplay and film, leveraging cutting-edge technology, advanced motion capture, and a Hollywood-style production.
The game is reportedly being developed with support from Sony, and will likely launch as a PlayStation 5 exclusive initially—though no official platforms have been confirmed yet.

Spiritual Successor, Not Sequel
Kojima was quick to clarify that Physint is not Metal Gear, nor is it trying to replicate it. Instead, it’s a spiritual evolution—a fresh IP that draws inspiration from the themes of warfare, surveillance, and human identity that made Metal Gear so impactful.
“This is something new, born from everything I’ve learned—but meant for today’s world,” he said.
This distinction is important. While fans may see familiar gameplay DNA, Kojima wants to push the genre further by blending narrative complexity, emotional depth, and contemporary political relevance.
When Will Physint Be Released?
As of now, there is no confirmed release date for Physint. Kojima noted that the project is still in pre-production, with casting, world-building, and design concepts currently underway. If it follows the timeline of past Kojima titles, it may take a few years before players get to experience the full vision.
Still, the announcement alone is enough to stir anticipation among long-time fans of stealth action games.
