The Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2025 served as the venue for the highly anticipated gameplay reveal of Spider-Man and Ghost Rider for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, the upcoming 4v4 team-based fighting game developed by Arc System Works and PlayStation Studios XDev. The two new additions bring the current public roster count to eight characters for the title, which is currently scheduled for release in 2026 on PS5 and PC.

Character Gameplay Breakdown at TGS 2025

Attendees who got hands-on with the new demo at the event reported unique and contrasting playstyles for both heroes, emphasizing the developers’ focus on diversity in character design for the 4v4 format.

Spider-Man: The Agile, Pressure Fighter

The Peter Parker version of Spider-Man is confirmed to be a high-mobility, pressure-oriented character. His playstyle is built around his signature web-based moves, which allow him to control space and keep opponents off-balance. Key abilities include:

  • Web Zip: Allows for quick trajectory changes and aerial movement, often flowing into follow-up attacks like Zip Kick or Web Slam for continuous pressure.
  • Web Shot: A projectile for zoning, which can be risky due to its long animation but is effective for dictating range.
  • Arachnid Assault: A versatile move that can be used as a combo finisher or an anti-air when performed mid-air.
  • Spidey-Sense: A counter stance that enables a quick evasion and a retaliatory strike, offering a strong defensive option.

Ghost Rider: The Resource Manager

The version featured is Robbie Reyes’ Ghost Rider, who utilizes his classic muscle car and chained attacks for mid-to-far range combat. His gameplay revolves around a unique resource system:

  • Vengeance Gauge: This gauge builds up as Ghost Rider uses his special moves, increasing their power. However, if the gauge is completely filled, he suffers a debilitating overheat state, collapsing and leaving him vulnerable.
  • Chain Abilities: Moves like Judgment Cradle and Revelator Chain use his flaming chains to maintain a safe distance and extend his combo range. The Revelator Chain is specifically useful for draining the Vengeance Gauge mid-combo to prevent overheating.
  • Hellfire & Penance Driver: Hellfire is a flame attack used to pressure blocking opponents, while Penance Driver is a command grab that can break through strong defenses.

The TGS 2025 demo also featured the new Savage Land stage. The full confirmed roster now includes:

  • Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes)
  • Iron Man
  • Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan)
